Hello sunshine!
This week I would like to share with you 3 recipes for breakfast that I really enjoy. Take a look!
I know it is not everybody´s favorite, but I love porridge! It is so comforting. I often write in my blog about oat porridge, but there are other grains which are delicious for breakfast and great for our digestive tract*. Have you guessed their name? I am referring to whole rice and millet.
Oat porridge recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 part of rolled oats
- 3 parts of water
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Place the oats, water and a pinch of salt in a pan over medium heat.
- Turn the heat all the way down when it starts to boil and cover the pan.
- Stir occasionally.
- When the water has been absorbed it´s done!
Note: this recipe is the quickest of the 3.
Whole rice cream recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 part of whole rice
- 6 parts of water
Instructions:
- Soak the rice (preferably overnight).
- Drain and rinse the rice with clean water.
- Place the rice and water in a pot over medium heat.
- Turn the heat all the way down when it starts to boil and cover the pot.
- Stir occasionally.
- Turn off the heat when the water has been absorbed.
- Blend the rice until it becomes a cream and it is done!
Note: this recipe takes more time than the other 2.
Millet cream recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 part of millet
- 4 parts of water
Instructions:
- Place the millet and water in a pan over medium heat.
- Turn the heat all the way down when it starts to boil and cover the pan.
- Stir occasionally.
- Turn off the heat when the water has been absorbed.
- Blend the millet until it becomes a cream and it is done!
Now comes the tasty part! Pour the porridge or the cream you prefer into a bowl. Next, add 1 teaspoon of organic honey and cinnamon to taste. If you want an alternative to honey, place 1 or 2 deseeded dates in the pan/pot (they will cook together with the grain). Lastly, include fruit. I suggest strawberries and raspberries because they are now in season!
I leave you with two tips:
- You can make porridge or cream the day before, so you will only need 5 minutes in the morning to blend it (add more water if needed) and re-heat it.
- Cook a larger amount of the cereal of your choice, so it can last for a couple of days.
I hope you enjoy!
Nurture yourself,
Natacha
