Hello sunshine!
Everyone of us is different. Some people like to work outdoors, others indoors. Some people work better alone, others in teams. Some people want to have their own business, others prefer working for somebody else.
We want different things, but there is something many of us have in common: we want to find a job we love. If we are spending most of our day working then it should be meaningful to us, right? It should, but in our society more and more people work in jobs they don´t like or that don´t fulfill them. They wake up every day feeling unmotivated, wishing they could stay in bed. They work more than 8 hours per day and still bring work home. They spend all year round thinking about their holidays while their life is passing by.
“It is a privilege to work in something you love,” I heard it many times. So, what does it mean? Does it mean we should accept our circumstances and do nothing about it? Should we spend our entire lives feeling unhappy, anxious, frustrated because we are not the “privileged” ones? This has nothing to do with privilege or luck. This is about you: your will, determination, perseverance and sacrifice. The road will not always be easy, so it is important to believe with all your heart.
I can only see benefits (besides the personal ones) if everyone worked in something they loved, such as:
- More productivity
- Better work environment
- Happy customers
So what is keeping us from doing what we love? I think there is a great deal of fear, lack of self-confidence and the idea that there are no opportunities. But I would like you to know that there are opportunities, but they will not fall from the sky. We need to be open to them, in order to see them.
Let me tell you something. I spent all my life searching for a fulfilling job. On the one hand, I knew this meant helping others and on the other hand, well…This was the problem. I didn´t know what was on the other hand! So, how could I be open to opportunities? I then decided to do the following:
- I wrote a list with my interests and another one with my skills and then I matched the items from the two lists to find possible lines of work
- I made my vision board identifying what I wanted for my life
- I do daily visualizations of my life some years from now
These tools allowed me to focus on what I really wanted, so I could become aware of the opportunities that came my way, otherwise they might appear, but we don´t see them.
I realized that I was really interested in the area of health and well-being and my first step was to write a book about the lifestyle changes I made since I came to live in the Azores, called Back to Natural. I just didn´t know what I could do next, in order to gain more credibility in the area. I only knew that I wanted to help people towards a happier and healthier life.
Time passed by – yes, it is important to be patient – and one day I saw an ad about health coaching training. Instantly I knew in my heart that this was the way to go. So, what is a health coach?
A health coach is a mentor and a guide who was trained in holistic health coaching to help people achieve their own health goals by creating and implementing sustainable and positive lifestyle changes.
There are many reasons for someone to want my support, such as:
- Weight problems
- Stress and anxiety
- Difficulty sleeping
- Lack of energy
- Need for a healthier diet
This work is all I have ever dreamed of. I know that I can make a difference in other people´s lives. And because I believe 100% in what I do I finally decided to quit my job.
I guess I need to slightly change a famous quote. “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I have found mine: it is health coaching.
