I love summer for several reasons, but I can quickly name just a few: days are longer, the sun shines, I can go for a swim, make picnics and socialize more! Oh, and of course, enjoy seasonal fruit!
Fruit and summer are the perfect match. 🙂 Eating light, hydrating and nutritionally rich food is really what tastes best, so today I present you my top 3 fruit for this season:
1. Melons: melons and watermelons are one of the most hydrating foods! They are composed mainly of water and very easy to digest. It´s, in fact, for this reason that they should be consumed alone. Furthermore, they also stand out for its alcalinity, making them a must nowadays due to the over consumption of acidic food like animal protein and processed food. So let me make you a question: how many melons have you eaten this summer? 🙂
2. Berries: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries…How can these tiny little fruits be so nutritionally powerful? Their great strength comes from their antioxidants that help fight free radicals. In other words, antioxidants fight oxidation, a.k.a. aging process, and prevent disease development. Did you know they are a great brain food and also heart food?
3. Figs: they only arrive in the middle of August, but I am already counting the days until then. Figs are satianting and energetic and they also stand out for being alcaline. Besides, did you know they are one of the richest sources of calcium in food? If osteoporosis is a worry for you, then eat more figs. And they are also great in preventing high blood pressure due to its potassium content.
