Hello sunshine!
One of the first things my mother encouraged me to do was to express my feelings and, by doing this, start my ripple effect.
Unfortunately I see many people too afraid to say “I love you” while others would give anything to hear these three little words. Three little words that can put a smile on your face. Three little words that can give you more confidence. Three little words that can make your world shine.
Maybe you are thinking “ok, but actions are more important than words.” I couldn´t agree more. Words with no actions to support them are meaningless, but actions need words to reinforce them. You can be the best daughter helping your parents whenever they need, the best friend who always finds time to listen or the best girlfriend who is always ready to give a massage at the end of the day. These actions show how much you care about the ones you love. However, let´s not forget the importance of verbal communication. This is the main way we communicate with each other. Through language we share our daily life, our opinions and our emotions, so what is preventing so many people from saying “I love you”? It is tax-free!
In case you are wondering why a loved one is not telling you “I love you,” I encourage you to give the first step. Say to him/her “I love you” and notice his/her reaction. Probably he/she will be surprised at first, but then you will see a smile, that will make you smile, and you will hear “I love you too.” Who knows, maybe next time, he/she will be the one telling you “I love you” out of the blue.
As I wrote in my book Back to Natural “[w]hy saving for ourselves such a good feeling [love]? Out of shame? Who loves does not feel ashamed. Because it seems inappropriate? Love is never inappropriate. My advice is if you love someone, say it. Don’t save for tomorrow because, you know, tomorrow might be too late.”
Open your heart and start your ripple effect.
Nurture yourself,
Natacha
