Hello sunshine!

As you might remember I stopped drinking milk, so I had to find an alternative. First I  started drinking vegetable milks (e.g., almond, oat, rice) that I bought in the supermarket. I thought they were basically nuts/grains and water, but when I read the list of ingredients I realized that this depends on the brands.

Unfortunately it is important to always pay attention to the list of ingredients, otherwise we might consume something we don´t want to, such as added sugars. So, what did I do? I decided to start making my own almond milk at home. By doing this I know exactly what I am consuming and today I would like to share my recipe with you!

To make almond milk I use a device called ChufaMix. I am not sponsored by this brand, but it is such a useful device that I needed to share it with you. Why? It allows me to make almond milk in only 5 minutes!

In order to make 1 liter of almond milk you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup of raw peeled almonds
  • 1 liter of mineral water
  • 1 big date (I like medjool variety) or 2 small

Here are the steps:

1.Soak almonds overnight

2. Drain and rinse almonds

3. Follow these instructions

4. Instead of adding sugar in the end, I suggest using a date.  Add a deseeded date to the strained milk,  blend it again and it is done!

You can also do almond milk the traditional way. It will take a bit longer, but here is how you can make it:

1.Soak almonds overnight

2. Drain and rinse almonds

3. Place water and almonds in the blender (you can use a hand-blender if you prefer). Blend until smooth

5. Strain the milk using a cheese cloth

6. Place strained milk in the blender and add a deseeded date

7. Blend it again and it is done!

Oh, just one more thing. Instead of discarding the leftover almond meal you can save it and use it to make other recipes such as cookies or veggie balls. Isn´t it great?

It would be wonderful to hear from you! Please share your experience making homemade almond milk!

Nurture yourself,
